I was trying to encourage my grade 9 students to speak more so I asked them what was special about their family. One boy said that he was the tallest in his family, another said that his sister was born on Feb 29th (leap year so her bday only comes every 4 years). I told them that my Chinese last name is Ai and they knew that was special because ai means to love.. I asked if anyone's last name was Wang which means king. I randomly called on a girl to ask her last name and she turned red and all the kids started laughing (she was also laughing as I was writing it on the board). She told me that her surname was Zhu, I didn't get it so I asked the kids what was so funny:

Her surname translates to pig so the kids were laughing; I was trying not to laugh and I turned around to pretend I was writing on the board while I laughed. I then turned back with a very serious face and said "yeah that's special"
