I told my class the first two days that sometimes I give a pop quiz (little exam)- I am turning into that teacher you always hated but now that you look back appreciate them more...its delayed gratification because they probably won't like me now but when they become who they will be...I will be happy!
So anyways, I told them if they cheated I would give them a zero-- I had a few who were talking and honestly they probably weren't cheating- they could be asking for an eraser but I said don't talk and it really doesn't matter because I will give them a zero but when I send the grades to the education bureau- I will give the real grade. The major grades are the midterm and final but I need to guage where my students are; who is pretending to understand and who really gets it.
I am very pleased with most of the grades but I felt so bad, I gave one boy 90% because he could not spell his name! He lost 10 points for not being able to spell his english name-- but that was their first homework assignment.
The students who scored 100 will get a star and chocolate and the others will be encouraged to do better next time... I only had classes from 8-11am today so I am done for the day.
When I went to my last class, they were not separated yet so one of Jennifer's students came to me and said "Welcome to China!" and ran away lol
I feel so bad for some of my kids, some have really small eyes so they can't see so they actually physically stretch their eyes to see the board because their parents tell them that glasses are bad for their eyes!!!
The vice president of the school, my supervisor and another leader came to observe my class today. My supervisor told me that the vice president is very impressed with me and loves the way I teach the class! Aint that beautiful, she gives me so many compliments and then she monitors my pace because sometimes I talk really fast but now she thinks the pace is good. Glory!
