Sports Day

So here are 2 cultural tips- some things that are traditionally plural and singular mean nothing in China- for example; in a competition, it is very common to have 18 first prize winners; secondly a day can mean more than 1 days for example I was off for a week for National Day which is Oct 1st. I'm not complaining though!

So Sports Day went for 3 days--- so I havent had any classes in the past few days, they were just fun filled days with the kids- track and field events- races, relays, high jump, long jump, etc. It was alot of fun and the kids take it really serious so they put a lot of energy and effort into it.

Oh here is the second tip- everything is last minute because things here are cyclical- if it doesnt happen today it will happen tomorrow and its not a big deal whereas in western cultures people operate on a linear schedule and on very tight schedules for the most part. So we were told that we wouldnt have the events because of the rain so the kids didnt practice, only for marching- the day it was supposed to begin they decided they were having it! The weather was beautiful it was about 90- it was actually very hot....
Here is what it looks like:

Kids march by class looking all uniformed

This was my hardest class in terms of behavior until we had a heart to heart and now they are very sweet..my name is number 1- 807- you can already see that they have some pizzazz
