Orion is one of those kids you call "squat boy" because he sits in class and don't do squat- excuse my English. If you tell the class to turn to a page and read, he will mumble and pretend he is reading while he stares in the sky as if he memorized the book and doesn't have to look at the words. But you know I can't be calling my kids names and you gotta call those things that be not... First pop quiz: 30% while 1/3 of the class got 100% and the difference got between 70-90 and then like 5 kids got uner 70%. I drilled him over and over again, I told him that for each question he got wrong, he had to write the correct answer 5 times and give it to me. Then the next class, I made him stay back and retake the exam without changing his previous grade. Then I started to think well this is an ESL class so maybe he is just not good in languages. I asked his head teacher and she said he was doing poorly in other subjects. He isn't slow he is just lazy.
Last week I gave a test, he made 100%! You should have seen is face when I gave him the paper! So his hard work paid off because I can talk til I'm blue in the face but until he has his own desire to change, there aint no changing.
