Dreams

Since I came here I had a few dreams and 2 people had dreams about me. In September I dreamed that I was in the airport (my favorite place to be) and I went into what I thought was an empty taxi but when I got in the backseat I realized that there was a man already in there. The taxi driver asked me where I was going and the man (who by the way was very handsome) answered and told him my address. I didn't respond to him but when I got to my house, he took out my keys out of his jacket and opened the door for me and allowed me to go in. I don't remember talking to him for a long time but I do recall that he was super intelligent.

A few weeks later in October, Jennifer dreamed that I was engaged and I had a huge rock on my finger; but my engagement ring was fake!

In November, my supervisor dreamed that she saw Jinjing and I at a tourist attraction and she could not recognize me because I was much more beautiful; and I went to her and said "is that you?" and she responded "of course, its me"

Two days ago, Jennifer dreamed that I was missing; not like I was kidnapped or anything but I went away and did not tell them where I was; so Mary searched all of China and could not find me so she went to Russia! She couldn't find me but later I called and said that I was in Algeria!!!

No clue!

Eye Calisthenics

Chinese students in my school do eye exercises daily; after the second class in the afternoon an announcement comes on the PA system and they have to rub their eyes for 8 counts and 4 sets. This is supposed to promote their physical well being as well as give their eyes a rest from looking at projector screens all day and staring at books since they have such long class hours.

I have a cold!

I caught a cold and every time someone catches a cold, the chinese thing to say is 1. drink hot water 2. wear more clothes 3. go to the doctor and get an injection. Anyways, it lasted less than a week but when I got home one day, I saw this on my door:It was from my friend Mary and it says: "Get Well Soon" I think that was super sweet and very blog worthy!

Thanksgiving Part 3

As if celebrating Thanksgiving with 12 classes and a group of 14 friends wasn't enough, I hosted a Thanksgiving party at my house that Saturday. We started out with a craft project that I thought would be 1 hour; we decorated an album for more than 4 hours!

Thanksgiving Part 2- My students

I celebrated Thanksgiving Day with all of my students to give them a bit of American culture and it was a good plug to introduce them to the One we give thanks to. I had them draw a turkey if they could, and if they couldn't draw an outline of their hand (which loves nothing like a real turkey but it would suffice); then they had to think of 5 things they wanted to give thanks for. All the students were coming to me saying " I want to give thanks for you, Rose!" sniff sniff tissue!

The blue papers in their hands are the turkeys that they drew with the things or people they were thankful for. These are grade 9 students

The Pencil Test!

So there are a few people around me that are pregnant and we started a discussion about the pencil test. Apparently, a pencil can tell the sex of the baby you are going to have and you dont actually have to be pregnant at the time of taking this test. He is not a believer in the pencil test, he was like "lemme try that for myself, yall are moving it"

Here's what you need:

1 - Sharpened Pencil w/unused eraser
1 - Needle threaded with about 3 inches of thread (any color, lmao )

Here's what you do:

Okay.. first you stick the needle into the center of the eraser (poking straight out from the top).

Next hold it by the end of the thread, about 1-2 inches over the inside of your wrist (palm up fashion.. either one) and the pencil will start spinning in a circular motion over it.

Just let it spin until it changes direction and starts to sway. It will either sway up & down with the length of your arm, or side to side like a watch band would go.

Let it continue swaying until it comes to a stop. If it starts spinning in a circular motion again, just let it go.. then sway.. then go.. then sway.. and so on until it comes to a complete stop.

The results:

If it sways up & down with the length of your arm, your baby is a boy.

If it sways side to side (watch band direction) your baby is a girl.

Each series of circular/swaying motions represents a different child, it's gender and the order they will be born.

Interesting Extras:

Supposedly, you do not have to be pregnant when the pencil test is done. You can be a grandmother, a not yet pregnant woman, or........

a man. For a man, it is not supposed to move in any direction

Teachers Competition

I was signed up for a competition amongst the teachers- that's just the way things work around here, I guess. The teachers were competing in basketball and jumprope. I decided that I wanted to do basketball because I was not in a jumping mood, I came 2nd in the competition for shooting hoops!

Difference in opinion

I was walking with my chinese friend one day and a student say us and said to me "hey" and nodded her head at my chinese friend in a bow like gesture. I said to my chinese friend, "what's that, she must think I'm her schoolmate talking bout hey- I want a bow!"; my friend replied, "I want a hey because I am not old for her to be bowing to me- thats for the older teachers"
